Currently serving as Chief Financial Officer of PayPal China since 2014, John oversees full profit-and-loss responsibility for the company’s China operations, managing an annual revenue of RMB 7 billion across seven legal entities. As a key member of PayPal China’s Executive Committee, he spearheaded the development of the country’s five-year strategic roadmap, positioning PayPal as the first and only fully localized global payment platform in China. His leadership was instrumental in the landmark $200 million acquisition of GoPay, a licensed payment institution, which achieved 100% business localization. Under his guidance, PayPal’s Hong Kong subsidiary also secured its Stored Value Facility (SVF) license, marking a regulatory milestone for foreign payment platforms in the region. John further revolutionized financial operations by establishing a cutting-edge digital platform with big data analytics capabilities, earning him the CGMA “Finance Leader” Award for innovation.
Prior to PayPal, John held pivotal roles at GE, including CFO for GE Transportation’s Greater China and Southeast Asia operations. He established GE’s financial infrastructure in Indonesia, enabling $100 million in annual sales, and resolved multi-million-dollar legacy receivables with China’s Ministry of Transport through cross-functional collaboration. His expertise in post-merger integration was showcased during the standardization of ERP systems for acquired mining assets, while his governance contributions as a Board Director for a CRRC joint venture underscored his strategic advisory capabilities.
A globally recognized finance professional, John holds an EMBA from Peking University and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from Lancaster University (UK). He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (FCMA), a Certified Global Management Accountant (CGMA), and a Fellow of the Australian Certified Practicing Accountants (FCPA).
